Priority Processing Deadlines are as follows:
Domestic Graduate Priority Application Dates
Spring Semester: October 15
Summer Semester: April 1
Fall Semester: April 1
International Graduate Priority Application Dates
Fall Semester: April 1
Spring Semester: September 15
Summer Semester: February 1
For an MS degree: Students should submit their application, fee, transcripts, and test scores. Students applying for an MS degree should not send any other materials to UTA as additional materials will neither be recorded nor considered.
For a PhD degree: Students should submit their application, fee, transcripts, test scores, 3 letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and resume. Any other materials, such as copies of published articles or records of special certificates or achievements, can also be submitted.
The CSE graduate admissions committee bases its decisions for graduate admission on the following criteria:
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in undergraduate coursework as calculated by UTA Admissions
- A GPA of 3.2 or higher in CS/CSE related coursework in the last two years of the undergraduate degree
- Relevance of the student’s undergraduate degree to the CSE curriculum
- The rigor required to obtain the undergraduate degree. A 4-year degree is considered more rigorous than a 3-year degree.
- The reputation of the school from which the student received any/all previous degrees
- A combined GRE test score of at least 300 for an MS degree or 310 for a PhD degree.
- Quantitative: 155 or better for MS, 160 or better for PhD
- Verbal: 145 or better for MS, 150 or better for PhD

All applicants are automatically considered for a teaching assistantship unless otherwise requested. There is no advance application needed.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA): Most funding is provided by way of a GTA appointment with PhD students receiving priority over Master’s students. The selection process is highly competitive and the number of positions is extremely limited. Only the top applicants will receive this type of award.
Graduate Research Assistantships (GRA): Research assistantships are decided by individual faculty members based on the availability of funds at their discretion. PhD applicants are encouraged to contact faculty in their area of study to seek GRA opportunities.
PhD Fellowships: These scholarships are granted ONLY to new, incoming PhD students. They are a stipend that can be renewed each year for up to four years and come with certain conditions. Beyond the award itself, students who receive a fellowship are eligible to receive the in-state tuition rate.
