The Computer Science and Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for one tenure/tenure-track assistant/associate professor position with a tentative start date in Fall 2019 in the broad area of Cyber Physical Systems (CPS).
Our key objective is to hire a faculty member with outstanding qualifications, who shares the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in teaching, innovative and collaborative research, and service, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment and promoting diversity and participation of groups that are currently underrepresented in engineering fields. A major emphasis will be on potential collaboration for research with faculty members within and outside the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, building and leading a team of Ph.D. student researchers, developing an externally funded research program that yields top-tier publications, and serving on committees within UTA and the research community.
Candidates must have earned (by the start date) a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related area. Candidates for Assistant Professor must have demonstrated exceptional research promise. Candidates for Associate Professor must be leading their research area. All candidates must show a strong commitment to teaching excellence.

The College of Engineering is home to seven departments: Bioengineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With more than 7,000 students, the College is one of the largest in Texas and offers the most comprehensive engineering degree programs in the region. It offers 11 baccalaureate, 14 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs and has ties to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the region. The College is enjoying extraordinary growth in graduate and undergraduate student enrollment and in student graduation and has hired 36 new tenured/tenure-track faculty in the last three years. This growth has been concomitant with growth in research expenditures, collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship by faculty and students.
The Computer Science and Engineering Department has the most graduate students (879 in Fall 2018) in the College of Engineering and, with 2,242 students, is the College’s largest department. CSE faculty are active in the areas of big data analytics; data mining; databases; machine learning; assistive technologies; biocomputing and health informatics; computer networks and cloud computing; computer vision and multimedia; information systems and mobile computing; machine learning and data mining; artificial intelligence; cyber physical systems and robotics; software engineering and cybersecurity; and high-performance and sustainable computing. The department is ranked #66 in the nation by csrankings.org (as of September 2018, based on average 2016-18 publication count) and several areas within it are ranked in the top-50, including AI (#47), databases (#18), and HPC (#18). In the last few years students and faculty in the department have received distinguished paper awards from prestigious conferences, including ASE, CIDR, CIKM, ECML PKDD, ICAC, ICDE, ICDM, ISSRE, ISSTA, IUI, PSIVT, SIGMOD, and VLDB.
