The Computer Science and Engineering Department at The University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for 5 tenure/tenure-track assistant, associate, and full professor positions with a tentative start date in Fall 2018. The areas of the following position titles (e.g., “Artificial Intelligence”) are intended to be interpreted broadly:

- Assistant Professor - Cyber Physical Systems

- Assistant/Associate Professor - Cyber Security
The key objective is to hire faculty members with outstanding qualifications who share the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in teaching, innovative and collaborative research, and service, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment and with promoting diversity and participation of groups that are currently underrepresented in engineering fields. A major emphasis will be on potential collaboration for research with faculty members within and outside the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, building and leading a team of Ph.D. student researchers, developing externally funded research programs that yield top-tier publications, and serving on committees within UTA and the research community.
Candidates must have earned (by the start date) a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a related area. Candidates for Assistant Professor must have demonstrated exceptional research promise. Candidates for the tenured level must be leading their research area. All candidates must show a strong commitment to teaching excellence.

The University of Texas at Arlington is a Carnegie Research-1 “highest research activity” institution. With a total global enrollment of 58,664, UTA is the largest institution in The University of Texas System. The College of Engineering is home to seven departments: Bioengineering; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Industrial, Manufacturing, and Systems Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. With more than 7,000 students, the College is the third-largest in Texas and offers the most comprehensive engineering degree programs in the region. It offers 11 baccalaureate, 14 master’s, and 9 doctoral degree programs and has ties to numerous Fortune 500 companies in the region. The College is enjoying extraordinary growth in graduate and undergraduate student enrollment and in student graduation. This growth has been concomitant with growth in research expenditures, collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship by faculty and students.
The Computer Science and Engineering Department has the most graduate students (758) in the College of Engineering and is the College’s largest department. CSE faculty are active in the areas of big data analytics; data mining; databases; machine learning; assistive technologies; biocomputing and health informatics; computer networks and cloud computing; computer vision and multimedia; information systems and mobile computing; machine learning and data mining; artificial intelligence and robotics; software engineering and cybersecurity; and high-performance and sustainable computing, with more than $5 million in research expenditures. Many of the programs in these areas are ranked among the top 50 in the nation by Microsoft Academic Research. UTA is currently ranked #90 in Computer Science and #64 in computer engineering by U.S. News and World Report. The department is ranked #57 overall by csrankings.org (as of September 2017, based on average 2016-17 publication count) and several areas within it are ranked too: AI #4, OS #10, databases #19, high-performance computing #20, bioinformatics #21, security #33, and ML and data mining #46. The department currently has 4 NSF CAREER awardees, 3 IEEE Fellows, and recent distinguished paper awards recipients at ASE, CIDR, ECML PKDD, ICDE, ICDM, ISSRE, ISSTA, IUI, PSIVT, SIGMOD, and VLDB. The department currently has 1,205 Bachelor’s, 640 Master's, and 118 Ph.D. students.
